You’re called CRAZY if you are poor, ECCENTRIC if you’re wealthy, but they call you BRILLIANT when you’ve done something that no one else has- and succeeded.
Have you done anything that has caused people to call you crazy? If you are an owner of a family business… an entrepreneur then I’m sure you have heard this phrase a time or two. Take it as a compliment – I do. People are afraid to take risks and try new things. We always get caught up in our comfort zones and don’t want to change… why ruin a good thing right? No. Not right. As the saying goes – “Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained”.
As an owner of a family business, you should thrive on change. You need to be innovative and explore new ways to differentiate yourself… to be unique. Family business owners need to push the envelope and demand that everyone on their team does the same – Do you think Steve Jobs was this kinda crazy? I think everyone would agree that he was and he wanted everyone on his team to be a little crazy as well.
The world is always changing and if we don’t stay ahead of the ever-surging wave, we may miss the ride of a lifetime.
The ones that maintain this level of success are the ones that recognize when a change needs to happen and responds quickly to adapt.
Change for change sake.
Sometimes business leaders change for no reason at all other than boredom. This isn’t good either. When I am talking about change, I am talking about being proactive with calculated moves.
We shouldn’t change for the sake of change, we need to anticipate the needs, wants and desires of our market and then make our move – quickly!
Here are a few questions you can ask yourself;
- What can you do to become a little crazy? To think differently about how to add value to your audience?
- Do you have a calculated plan to differentiate yourself from your competitors?
- Does your marketing efforts scream “innovative”?
- What are you going to do next?

Amen Norman! My husband truly thinks I am Nuts. I really take it as a compliment though. Ideas are the roots of any business. Being different from the rest is what makes a sucessful business
