Today you are you! That is truer than true! There is no one alive who is you-er than you!
~Dr. Seuss
I really love the way Dr. Seuss structured his messages… they made you stop and think. He had a style all is own.
It’s important to be the “True you… the one that is you-er than you” when it comes to building your brand as a Consultant. Don’t try and be something you are not. Your audience will see right through that. Be transparent and let your personality, principals, and values shine… don’t try to hide them or follow someone else’s style.
I always strive to be the true me… transparent in all I do. This has allowed me to enjoy my work a LOT more. I don’t try to alter my personality and brand to fit each business situation or opportunity. That only causes brand confusion and is very stressful to keep up with.
People typically tell me that I’m a bit eccentric and very passionate, I wear my beliefs on my sleeve and love to share my faith as much as I can. And yes… I have been told that it’s not good to mix faith and business, but, that’s the point, that is the “True Me”. That being said, my personal brand attracts people that enjoy my uniqueness and eclectic brand attributes… that is one way that I differentiate myself from my counterparts in this industry. As the saying goes, “you can’t be all things to all people”.
So, Be The Best You That You Can Be
Being the “true you” will help you with the following when it comes to shaping your brand;
- Build Trust – People are very intuitive and will see almost immediately if you aren’t being who you truly are. Inevitably, you will lose their trust and they won’t want to do business with you.
- Be Unique – One of the best things about being you is that you are already different then everyone in your niche. Use that to your advantage. Shape your personal brand around your unique qualities, principals, values, etc. “There is something very magnetic about someone who is very authentic.”
- Live Your Brand – When you are just being yourself, living your brand comes easily and naturally. Identify key attributes that resonate with your audience and focus your brand efforts there.

Most importantly, as you are shaping your brand around who you are and what you do, enjoy the process and grow your business with passion.
